Kits

3oz jars are also available as a kit containing the four grades of yellow, the four grades of green or eight jars containing all the yellow and green jars.

The TIMESAVER Lapping Compound is mixed with oil.

Initially the cutting action of the non-charging TIMESAVER Lapping Compound is rapid but as the abrasive particles disintegrate the cutting action diminishes.  It does not contain emery, ground glass, silicon-carbide, aluminium oxide or similar permanent charging abrasives.  It will not charge into any metal surface or continue to cut.   The manufacturers of Timesaver Lapping Compound refer to an excerpt from Paragraph 18 of the U.S. Navy Experimental Station Test No. 4387 as follows:

"Tests made of TIMESAVER Lapping Compound bear out the claims of the manufacturers that this compound does not imbed in the metal on which it is used, and that it quickly breaks down from an abrasive, first to a polishing compound and then further to inert material.  These qualities allow its use where normally an abrasive could not be thought of, because particles of the ordinary abrasive could not be fully cleaned out of the machine, and might continue to grind or scratch when or where such action would not be desired".

The advantage of TIMESAVER Lapping Compound being sold in powder form is:

  1. It enables the user to make a mild or concentrated mixture using an oil of the correct viscosity to meet the existing lapping conditions.
  2. It reduces waste as the user only adds as much powder as is needed.
  3. It's easy to store and is not affected by temperature changes meaning it keeps indefinitely at the same time as saving on storage space and being easy to dispense.
